Memorial Day Weekend fun

Connecticut School of Broadcasting treated some of its instructors to a Rangers game Saturday night, and of course Angela and I were all over that. Rangers games are the best! This time we were in a suite. Usually when we go to Rangers games it's just the two of us in the regular seats, and we alternate between fun chats and being totally into the game. But in the suite, everyone was more concerned with the chatting part. Call me a nut, but that bothered me. There were a few people who were into the game, but the most concentration centered around the food and small talk. Deborah Damiano's husband asked me at one point, "Do you like baseball at all?" This would be a sarcastic question if he knew me, but since he hadn't seen me jump up and down and scream yet, he was being serious. I told him I loved it and slid into a position with a better view of the batter. We chatted for awhile as I kept an eye on home plate, and I think by the end of the conversation he realized I was a sports nut. I probably should have used the opportunity to network with other broadcasters. Brenda Teele was there from WFAA and she's fantastic. And my friend Pam Harris from Channel 11 was there. Angela and I did manage to chat with her for awhile and meet her husband. But during the 7th through 9th innings I had to focus on the game. The Rangers lost to the A's, but they bounced back Sunday night and won again last night. I don't have to witness all the wins. My love for them is unconditional.

We went to a pool party on Sunday. It was a hoot. But our friends decided it would be fun to toss random, fully-clothed people into the pool, and Angela was among their victims. Angela grabbed onto me as she was about to be pulled in, but I managed to pull myself over to a nearby lawn chair and sit down just as Angela lost her grip. I couldn't have saved her anyway. Denise was determined to pull her in. Denise told me later not to worry--that there was no way they would mess with me. Interesting. That's good, because I really would have hated being dunked. At the same time it made me wonder what vibe of mine had alerted them to this disdain for being soaked against my will. I guess some people are just dunkable and some are not. I admire the dunkable ones, but at the same time I'm fully content in my undunkability. Something to ponder this week.

Oh, GO MAVS!! I'll be watching at work tonight while I'm on the air. I can feel a Mavs/Heat Finals in the future. Hurray for transition defense and finding a way to win no matter what. Mavs rule!

Dang Suns

I'm depressed about the Mavs loss tonight. I was in the production studio behind the Mix control room working on some things and I could see the TV screen from there. I couldn't see the score very well but I could tell the Mavs got to 100 first because there were three white blobs on the scoreboard to the Suns' two. But it didn't last. Fiddle dee dee.

What else. I'm quickly becoming a night owl. Or at the very least a night parakeet. I don't stay up as late as owls do. I'm sleeping from about 1am until 8:30 or 9:00. So THIS is what it feels like to get more than 6 hours of sleep at night. I'm diggin' it.

Last week a girl rear-ended us on the Tollway and my shoulder still hurts. I met with a lawyer this morning. I don't want to be a gold digger (but I ain't messin' with no broke, broke....I couldn't resist). But I think the seat belt messed up my shoulder and now the nerves have gone haywire. When I'm on the treadmill and my arms are swinging I get shooting pains in my elbow and at the base of my thumb. I don't think shoulders are supposed to send electric currents. And I don't want to be a hundred and still have the shooting currents while I'm trying to drink my Ensure. Or margaritas...hey now! So the lawyers can sort it out. I just couldn't let it slide.

I'm jazzed about Memorial Day weekend! Angela and I will actually get to spend time together. We're going to a Rangers game Saturday, a barbecue on Sunday, and on Monday we're staying home and grilling something fun. A perfect weekend. Hopefully the Mavs will be back in the series by that time. Oh how I love the Mavs...

MAVS WIN!!

I kept up with the game while I was on the air last night and nearly died of a heart attack during my first show. You go Dirk! The bucket AND the foul!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Big sigh of relief.

Bring on the Suns! Steve Nash and Dirk may be best friends off the court, but it's fun to watch them duke it out on the court. Go Dirk Go. And Jason Terry, please don't punch anyone in the privates. We need you for every game.

GO MAVS!!

Today is the day

I've officially moved over to Mix 102.9. Yay!

So far the day is off to a good start. I did spill some coffee on my capris on the way to work, but the damage was minimal and I managed to imbibe enough caffeine despite it. The day can still be great.

I had to come to the radio station early because Tony and Cappy are going to put me on the New Morning Mix to introduce my new show. I won't be up this early every morning! I'll have to get used to being a night owl. I've been doing various things for morning radio for eight years, so moving to nights will be a big switch. But sleeping in? Heck yeah.

So beginning tonight I'm doing 7-midnight on Mix 102.9. Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morissette, Jack Johnson, and fresh new stuff like KT Tunstall. Fits me like a glove. I'm excited.

For you out-of-towners, you can listen live online at http://mix1029.com.

I'll post things related to the show here, and as always I'll write about random life happenings and idiosynchrisies. Life is fun! Have a great week.
